Dhruv Shringi is one of the successful online entrepreneur who has growth his business with out investing single penny from his own pocket. Dhruv Shringi had the guts to leave a white-collar job with ebookers(London)and come back to India to pursue his dream.That’s how Yatra.com was born.Initial days were difficult, though.He had to go without salary for more than six months,lost three of the four founders and desperately looked for VC money.But his tenacity paid off and currently,Yatra is among the top three OTAs operating in India.With an initial investment of Rs 50-60 crore,the company managed to break even in three years.A delve into the past further convinces us that Shringi is not the one who would give up easily.
Personal story:-
It is heard that When he was 18,Shringi convinced his father to sell their small plot of land to fund a chemical manufacturing unit.Three years later,his venture failed,but his journey has continued till date.When he was working in Yatra.com with out salary at that time his wife was pregnant and nothing in hand to take care of her.
Beating the market of online:-
To increase visibility,Yatra used the online search engine optimization method and banner ads.The tie-up with TV 18 helped them in a big way.TV was one medium that was clutter free and they managed good recall value through our advertisements as he has said in an interview. He has started from 80 tickets a day in September 2006,bookings jumped to 1,000 tickets a day in November then there after it reached more than 5 lacs daily in 2012.With the brand gaining attraction and 15-20% increase in month-on-month sales,a scale-up had to be planned.The VCs put in more money,the team grew to 150 and new premises were hired.The company one of the leading online portal in India.
